About Megan

  • Mommy to three awesome children, ages 6, 3 and 1, which makes for excitement around our house almost 24/7. There’s never a boring moment.
  • Wife to a wonderful husband, married 7 years and counting.
  • Professional photographer specializing in outdoor, on-location and natural light photography.
  • Shoots weddings on many weekends with another professional photographer/best friend.
  • Loves to shoot birth photography. Yes, live births. From homebirths, hospitals, birthing centers, to cesarean sections, I’ve shot it all. From labor and contractions, to the actual birth, to mom and dad’s first look at their new baby and all of the moments in between and directly after the little one’s first breath.
  • Photographer for two local magazines. The first is “a locally produced magazine featuring everything for Topeka families,” XYZ Magazine. The second, Seveneightfive {I Do}, is a comprehensive wedding guide for area brides and grooms.
  • Co-creator of The Maternal Lens, a popular blog celebrating all things photography and motherhood related, with a very active Facebook fan page.
  • Finds inspiration from light and color. Sometimes from an outfit, an era or a unique location. I often think in photographs, whether driving through town, on a walk through the neighborhood or lying awake at night.
  • My favorite subject to photograph is currently my 6 year old daughter. Going out and taking photographs, always with a theme, outfit, concept in mind, is a past time that we both enjoy. The connection we have while shooting is like no other. Every now and then I let her get behind the lens too, as her love for photography is steadily blossoming. I have high hopes of my youngest two enjoying this activity as well when they are a little older.
  • Adores all things vintage: aprons, brooches, furniture, clothing, knick-knacks.
  • Often loses large amounts of time on Pinterest, finding all sorts of crafty ideas, inspiring photography, recipes and more.
  • Enjoys creating things, usually with vintage inspired fabrics or colorful scrapbook paper. Most proud of a brooch flower bouquet that I created for “wedding re-do” photos my husband and I are having taken. We only had a single snapshot at our backyard garden wedding seven years ago.
  • Biggest life changing event was when my second child, my only son, was life-flighted over an hour away clinging to life at two days of age. An undetected heart defect presented itself, creating a life threatening situation. He was diagnosed with a genetic disorder, DiGeorge Syndrome, and underwent open heart surgery on New Year’s Eve at two weeks of age. He is now a happy and healthy three year old mama’s boy.
  • An advocate for natural childbirth (when possible) and being a patient, unconditionally loving, nurturing and responsible parent.
  • Did I mention I love Mpix?
