How to Upload Photos for High-Quality Prints

When you're ready to turn your favorite photos into high-quality prints, following these simple tips will ensure a smooth experience and exceptional results.

Organize before you upload.

Planning ahead can make all the difference with your next photo project.

  • Start with well-organized folders. Get started by organizing your photos by date, occasion, or subject. Not only is this helpful for printing your photos, it makes it easier for locating your favorites in the coming years.

  • Be selective and curate ahead of time. Narrow down to your absolute must-haves before you upload. We recommend creating a favorites folder on your desktop or phone with the photos you love the most.

Make sure to use hi-res image files.

We accept .jpg, .png, and .heic image files.

For best results, we recommend uploading the highest quality .jpg versions of your photos at 250-300 DPI. The chart below shows what resolution will lead to the best image quality along with the minimum resolution needed based on print size. Don’t fret if this feels too technical, our software will notify you if you need a higher-quality image file.

If you’re uploading from your computer, navigate to “My Photos” in the header bar of the mpix website and select “Add Photo Gallery”. You will also have the option to upload photos to already existing galleries in your account. Give your new photo gallery a name that describes your project.

Download the Mpix app when ordering from your phone.

The Mpix app is a fast and easy way to upload photos from your phone or tablet. If you have “Live Photos” (.HEIC) on your device, the app will automatically convert these files to jpgs. As a bonus, you can always access and update these Mpix albums from your desktop later.

Upload in smaller batches.

We recommend uploading 30-50 photos at a time for an improved overall experience. This can be especially helpful when working with large image files from a professional photographer. Once uploaded into your Mpix albums, you can sort your photos alphanumerically by file name or newest to oldest.

Name your Mpix galleries.

We recommend organizing your Mpix galleries by photo project, date, or occasion. These photo albums will be stored on our site for 18 months (548 days). This period is extended an additional 548 days when you place an order.

Now you’re ready to start printing.
